9 Ways to Increase Engagement on Instagram

More and more social media influencers, even bloggers or YouTubers, are finding in Instagram a new better way to engage with their audience – but how do they do it?

First of all, let’s talk about which advantages engagement on Instagram bring to social media influencers and brands. Instagram is a special app. Not only has it already conquered a place as one of the best apps in the world, as its number of users gets bigger and bigger every day. And who could blame Instagram for this? The app is not hard to use, gives its users the chance to ’embellish’ their content further, as it brings visual content – a type of content that is easier to embrace.

You have to engage with your audience to have an audience that engages with your content, and that is an endless work. You cannot just stop engaging with your audience from one day to the other, and it takes strategy and some patience to get there.

But don’t worry, we are here to give you some tips that can increase the engagement on your Instagram account.

1. Post regularly

Just like you can’t stop engaging with your audience from one day to the other, you can’t also stop posting. This does not mean you should overwhelm your audience with posts, but try to post at least once a day, or between 5 to 7 times a week.

2. Post good content

Know your audience, knows what interests them, and post that. Also, small hint, use Instagram to also post exclusive content, something that your users wouldn’t usually see. For example, as I have written here, Burberry uses their Instagram account to show exclusive behind the scenes of their photo shoots and fashion shows.

3. Use hashtags

Hashtags help users reach your content. For example, if you live in a big city, like Berlin, use the hashtag #berlin, so Instagram users who search for photos of Berlin can reach you.

4. Use the right filters

Use Instagram filters to make your content more attractive. You can use black and white to express the sadness of a scenario, or a brighter filter to emphasize a good time you spent on the beach.

5. Have a public account

Instagram works a little bit like a clothing store: people will start going to your store and buying or products after they try them on. In this case it means that you will have Instagram users checking your content before they decide to follow you. If your Instagram account is private, the chances of having users following you is extremely low.

6. Post timely content

Have some sensibility to the season we are in. Is it Christmas? Easter? Spring is starting to appear? Post content that celebrates the time of the year you are right now.

7. Interact with other users’ content

Speaking of users, make them notice you. Comment their content and ‘heart’ it. They will notice you, check your Instagram account, and probably engage back with you.

8. Promote your account on other networks.

Link your Instagram account with other networks, such as Facebook, Twitter and your blog. This not only makes potential new users notice you, as it makes users go to your Instagram account.

9. Post shareable content

Social media users like to share content with their friends, and therefore photos that can be shared have more success, such as ‘tag a friend’, or photos that remind users of someone.
